The Kingdom of Bygaria

A Kingdom governed by nobles of both virtue and corruption. Where the powerful triumph one year but are brought to ruin in the next. Court intrigue, political alliances and strategic manipulation are the true keys to gaining favor and clout in Bygaria. The kingdom of Bygaria is made up of several distinct territories, each governed by a ruling Duke, his family and lords sworn to him.

There are several prominent families in Bygaria, each holds great power and commands the subjects of their region. The Fiery Akashkas, the shrewd Rhyspells, the cunning Swifts, the mighty Izludes, the ambitious Orions, the generous Ashbys, the duplicitous Merteuil and the forgotten Ocherals.

Most citizens in Bygaria are human, there are small communities of other races but they tend stick to small sections of larger cities and are rarely found in small towns. Bygarians are friendly to the Elves of the floating nation of Al Jinh and sturdy mountain dwarves of Havelia. Half-Elves and Mul (Half-Dwarves) are increasingly common in Bygaria.

Rather than identify themselves as Bygarian, most people closely identify with the region of Bygaria they come from.  Common folk as well as high-borne share a deep love and pride for their home region and will fiercely defend it against any who would wish it harm.
Jerba, the center of the kingdom, landlocked on all sides by other territories, is the breadbasket of Bygaria. Ruled by the rich and powerful Rhyspell family from Maderry Castle, the perfect weather, thriving economy and plentiful work has made Jerba bloom in the last several decades. The nobles of Jerba are known to be aloof and standoffish, highly educated and very wealthy.
Blaknam is the Western edge of the kingdom and border with the Dwarven nation of Havelia. Blaknam is a cold, muddy land. Salt marshes and frigid moors cover Blaknam, the land is unforgiving and its people are hard and strong. The Swift family has ruled Blaknam from Icena Castle for centuries. A family of tieflings and dragon touched, the Swifts are known to be inapproachable, mysterious and cut-throat. The recent exposure of several prominent noble families close relations to an assassins guild has soured the populous' opinion of their masters.
Gaug is the frozen territory in the northwest. Small noble families are able to make some petty claim to regions of Graug but the land is almost entirely devoid of civilization. It is the one place where half-men and criminals of all sorts can take refuge in. The true ruled of Graug is an ancient white dragon and his terrible brood.
Malateau- The North East corner of the Bygaria. While despite being next to Graug, the territory of Malateau rarely has a harder winter than its neighbors to the South. Devils are said to own the soul of Malateau, having made a dark pact with the ancient the progenitor of the family.  Malateau is known for its impressive and beautiful cities and towns, its people's open worship of dark gods and its elitist and devil-worshiping ruling family, the Merteuil.
The Azure Veil is a great forested valley the borders Graug and Malateaui to the South and Jerba and the Fords to the North. The Azure Veil is the second smallest of the territories but its people are disciplined, proud and fierce. The Azure Veil gets its name for a rare blue needled pine that grows exclusively in the wood, the ruling family, the Izludes proudly wear blue at all times. The Izludes were born out of fierce warlords who commanded the forest with a firm fist but have adapted themselves well with the other nobles since then.
The Fords are the smallest of the territories and it comprises of a series of flood plains and open heartland, zig-zagged with roads and bridges, all of which eventually lead to the capitol, Byron's Light. Most common folk in the Fords are fishers and rice growers, and their Lords tend to be prosperous. The Royal Akashka family, are the direct rulers of Fords. Traditionally the Queen is given full of rule of the Fords while the King divides his attention to all territories. The Akashka's are an old and proud family, they have proven to be warlike and each member of their family is hungry for glory.
Old Purre had been a kingdom onto its own for centuries before it was conquered and made part of Bygaria. Located just a few miles down the coast from the Fords is the largest city in Bygaria, Bellbay the gateway to Old Purre and the Vastean Sea. Known for its crowded city life, bustling metropolis and sprawling slums, Old Purre contains both the best and the worst of Bygarian life. The Ashby's have ruled from Lynbury Castle and have always proven thoughtful, kind and gentle lords, but among high society are known to be far less wealthy than any of the other families. The lords under the Ashby's are often very corrupt and greedy.
Prima, the largest and hottest of the Bygarian territories. Prima ranges from open coast land, deserts, dunes and sweltering jungles. Long ruled by the Ocheral family, its recently come into the leadership of the Orion family who helped put down a rebellion started by the Ocheral family, nearly five years ago. The Orion's rule from Donovan Castle and have proved ambitious Dukes,  known to be gullible, hot headed and arrogant. Many of the Lords answering to the Orions have yet to come to respect their new governors.
